With Denmark, Sweden and The Netherlands all showing over a 50% reduction in cardiac death in this 20 year period. However, there is considerable variation between the different countries, with the northern European countries showing a much greater risk of coronary heart disease , whilst the southern European countries are at greater risk of cerebro- vascular disease . Coronary heart disease is also the principal health concern for women, but only over the age of 75 is it a greater problem than for men.
